morgan: ALP leading coalition 57.5 to 42.5

It’s a couple of days old but the latest Morgan poll has Labor leading the Government by 15 points.  Even accounting for Morgan’s historical tendency to favour Labor that represents a reasonably large lead.  Newspoll puts it at 55-45 in Labor’s favour.

Rudd hasn’t really said much in terms of substantive policy so far – a bit about water here (standard Howard Government appropriation of sound opposition policy here), a bit about education there, and of course a lot about industrial relations.  The next few months should be instructive as to whether these figures represent the oft-cited “honeymoon” or a more significant shift in voting intentions.

Meanwhile Mumble speculates that the PM may be about to step down unexpectedly on the basis of a likely Labor win (rather unlikely, I feel).
