govt still meeting with extremist Christian group, rabid anti-Islamic ‘thinker’

Repeating the mantra that members of parliament meet with Australian citizens “all the time”, it has emerged that the Government’s links to the extremist Christian sect the Exclusive Brethren remain as strong as ever. As mentioned previously (1, 2), the sect both prohibits its members from voting or from participating in society generally, and provides support for John Howard and his Government on the basis of its conservative credentials.

The Government continues to deal with the sect despite questions over funding of pro-Government and anti-Greens advertising. One wonders what the reaction would be if the PM were secretively meeting with, say, an extremist Muslim group which forbids it members from participating in the ordinary life of Australia or from voting. Not good, perhaps.

In other political meet-n-greet news, it seems that both the Government and the Opposition have also met with Wafa Sultan, an alleged “thinker” from the US who is of the view that all muslims are terrorist sleeper cells in waiting. For example:

(As a Muslim) your mission on this earth is to fight for Islam and to kill or to be killed. You’re here for only a short life and once you kill a kafir, or a non-believer, soon you’re going to be united with your God.

Truly a mis-statement of modern Islam worthy of Bin Laden himself. She goes on to argue that “the West” must “monitor” all Muslims:

That’s why the West has to monitor the majority of Muslims because you don’t know when they’re ready to be activated. Because they share the same basic belief, that’s the problem,

Australians should consider whether they are comfortable with the Government and Opposition of the day meeting - in secret - with an individual who makes remarks which must run perilously close to breaching religious vilification laws, and certainly breach international human rights standards in that regard.
