It was fabulous. More soon.
Random website of the week: spEak You’re bRanes. An hilarious collection of mockery and analysis of the UK equivalent of the Australian “we grew here, you flew here”/”Australia: love it or leave” brigade. Oh, and it’s probably NSFW.
Here’s one for you. If you lived next door to a mad tiger who kept raping you and [...]
truly visionary
This reminds me of my own battered batter project (the secret is to roll the first round of batter in flour to reduce oil before re-battering): french fry coated hotdog. Truly, they are years ahead of me.
You know you want it. Thanks to Karloskar.
Edit: I have to add a link to this, too – if [...]
Seems like someone with a lot of creativity and time on their hands has decided to get creative with bentō boxes.
See the full set of bentō box pictures.
Further to the post about Harry Nicolaides, I thought I would add a link to the case of Associate Professor Giles Ji Ungpakorn, a Thai academic who is seemingly about to be charged under the same antiquated and anti-democratic laws.
His crime? Trying to better the lot of Thais by conducting open dialogue (by way of [...]

Anyone who gets this without googling wins significant respect. Or at least less disrespect.
This is disgraceful: a Melbourne man, Harry Nicolaides, has been jailed in Thailand for three years for insulting the Thai royal family in a novel he has apparently written. The conviction is a result of Thailand’s anachronistic “lese majeste” laws, which make insulting the royals an offence punishable by 3-15 years prison. As this website [...]
my wandering days are over

I tend to agree with the conclusion that the band may have inadvertently traded some of their poignancy and emotional [...]
The Long Now Foundation (http://www.longnow.org/) seems like an interesting project: it’s intention is to promote long-term thinking in the context of the next 10,000 years. To that end it has various projects underway – my favourite is a project to build a monument-sized clock on a mountaintop in Nevada which is designed to be [...]
hey, my shoes are talking
Uh oh: three+ cups of coffee a day increases the risk of hallucinations. Also:
In moderation, caffeine can increase the capacity for mental or physical labor, but when used in excess, it also can be intoxicating, causing nervousness, irritability, anxiety, muscle twitching, insomnia, headaches and heart palpitations, other studies have shown.
I wonder what my customary 4+ [...]
more macro photography
Karloskar’s taken it up several notches with this shot, using the same technique described previously (click on the photo for more sizes etc):
You may have read about how Apple, in its benevolence, is finally releasing its entire music catalogue in a digital rights management-free format – i.e., you can copy them freely as you see fit. Sounds great (especially from the perspective of Apple’s marketing humanoids): a stylish cutting edge tech company finally breaking the music [...]
game where the gods came to die
As part of our quest for total geekiness, we are currently playing Puerto Rico. It’s pretty good so far. If you have no interest in weird European board games you may like to look away now.
Things I like:
An interesting turn mechanic, where each player in turn gets to pick one of a number of roles [...]
