    Any bear sightings? When I was there I remember being completely enthralled by the way the mountains block out the stars at night (I was 15, but still.) At one stage my room mate and I returned to the cabin and found a horde of raccoons attacking our food supply. He actually scared them off with a trumpet.

    No bears alas, despite anxiously seeking them here, there and everywhere. The tantalising promise that “speeding kills bears” posted throughout the park led to no such results despite my constant speeding (we were hoping for a near miss, rental cars don’t get fixed cheaply). We did come across some rather moronic deer in the middle of nowhere and various squirrels who were too obsessed by their lust for vegetable matter to concern themselves much with us. The mountains were just amazing.
